IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT - FRAUDULENT EMAILS

It has been noticed that people outside of Cyprus contact dealers and private sellers who listed their cars on CyprusCarTrader.com and express interest to buy their cars and export them to another country. This interest is usually expressed via email but we noticed that some sellers also received phone calls. If you speak to these people on the phone you will usually notice an African accent.

After an initial expression of interest for the car to make the whole story look genuine, these people will tell you that they need your personal information such as copy of ID or Passport and also, your bank account to remit the funds. The intention of these people is purely money laundering and what they are looking forward to is to remit to your bank account an amount much higher than the price of your car. Then, having all your personal information they will run after you to release to them the extra money they sent.

According to international and Cyprus law, money laundering consists a serious crime even if you get involved into it unintentionally. So please if you receive interest for your car(s) as explained above or if you are unsure about the intentions of potential buyers please NEVER give away information such as your ID or Password and NEVER give your Bank Account Number.

We want to emphasize that you should not see such interest as an opportunity to make money; the police and the Central Bank of Cyprus as well as all banks are already aware of it and you could get in serious trouble.

If you have been the victim of such interest and you have given away personal details such as your ID or Passport or most importantly your bank account number, please alert your bank and the authorities immediately.
